We are pupils from the Samuel Ward Academy in the Suffolk town of Haverhill. We have been working with the Herbert Group Ltd to find out more about their long history. We have explored their very large collection of documents, photographs, weighing equipment and other objects: none of this has ever been seen by the general public. We were split into three groups:

Curators Team – they researched the objects in the collection, decided which ones to highlight in this exhibition and say what was interesting about each one.

Video Team – they interviewed former employees of the company and created some short video footage

Web Team – they worked with Pure Energy Multimedia Ltd on creating this web site.

We hope that you will find this collection interesting. We have discovered that you can find out so much about the past from looking really carefully at objects, documents, old photographs. There are lots of things we have found out but there many things you will find here that still need more research. We hope that you might be able to help us and the company fill in the gaps in our knowledge.

Thanks
We must say a big thank you to our teacher Miss E Maxwell, Mr Mike Levy of Keystage Company who ran the project, Mr Jason Fitzpatrick of Pure Energy Multimedia Ltd for giving us his expert knowledge on web sites, Mr Tony Turner of the Haverhill and District Local History Society and Mr Richard Herbert, the current Chairman of The Herbert Group Ltd. It is good to know that one of the oldest companies in the UK is on our doorstep and that they have been so helpful in letting us be the first people to explore their collection.

A big thank you also to the Young Roots programme of the Heritage Lottery Fund who made this whole project possible.
